D.R. Dockery

I am 40, married with 3 kids. I am a writer and a graphic designer. I also paint watercolors and acrylics and I do pencil drawings. I have been a graphic designer professionally for about 12 years and in that time I have taught myself to do website design and improve on my skills with photoshop, indesign and illustrator. I do logos, brochures, letterhead, business cards, powerpoint etc.. just about anything to do w/advertising. I also write ad copy and I consult about advertising and do website design. In addition, I do mac repair and photo restorations/colorizations. Right now I am writing on several different blogs. I'm not sure if all of them will be popular so I am just trying to try out different subjects. I had a blog called 'willblogforgas.com' but then the cost of the site got too high and the prices dropped so that fizzled out, but it was just starting to take-off. I'm always coming up with new ideas.

I am also working hard on a series of articles and e-books on graphic design and other topics that I will be self-publishing on either amazon.com or lulu.com. I also have a book of short-stories that I will be self-publishing too.

I just had 3 articles published last week. 2 of them were about graphics and the other was about the educational benefits in the military. (I spent 6 years in the Navy and I am a Desert Storm Vet.)

My passion lies in fiction, though, mostly short stories although I do have a novel cooking on the back-burner. It's a thriller/mystery type novel. I would love some feedback on my writing. I am working on trying to pin down a style and a genre. I love so many different types of books so it's hard to decide, but I think I am going to try and stick with mystery/thriller type stories/novels. I just got done reading Ray Bradbury's Farenheit 451. I loved it. He is a great writer.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, movies, fishing, painting and playing guitar. I am a home-body - family guy and I just love spending time with family. My wife and I haven't really spent much time apart since we met 10 years ago in Florida and my daughter is very close too. She is my best friend. My 2 boys - not so much, but they're guys so it's cool. (they're 17 and 19 so they think they know everything now!)

I'm originally from Barrington, IL (35 miles NW of Chicago). I moved around a lot in the Navy from California (San Diego) to the Bay Area (Oakland, Hayward, San Leandro) and then I got out of the Navy for a short time and moved back home to Illinois (Wauconda) and then I moved to Florida. (Daytona Beach, Holly Hill) and re-enlisted in the Navy and got stationed in Astor, Florida, which is in-between Orlando and Daytona Beach in the middle of the Ocala National Forrest.

Drop me an e-mail if you want to comment on my work, say hi or talk about writing or graphics. I am trying to shift towards writing full-time, but I do have a graphic design firm that I run from my home-office if you need any type of design work done like a book cover design.
